Changyao Zhu is a famous Chinese erhu player and composer, a national first-class actor, Vice President of the Chinese Nationa Bow and String Association, and President of the Jiangsu Provincial Musicians Association of China. Additionally, Mr, Zhu is the an director of Jiangsu Performing Arts Group and Suzhou Chinese Orchestra, Visiting professor of China Conservatory of Music Nanjing Arts College, Nanjing University and Nanjing Normal University, Doctoral supervisor.
In 1982, he won the Excellent Performance Award of the “National Instrumental Soio Competition” (the first place in erhu), In 1991, he won the “Second Jiangsu Literature and Art Award” issued by the State Government of Jiangsu Province. In the same year, he was awarded the “Government Special Allowance” by the State Council in China. In 2015, he won the Zijin Culture Medal. In addition to performing, Changyao Zhu also actively participated in music creation and served as the conductor of the Chinese orchestra. He has recieved many awards from China Ministry of Cuiture, and National Music Works and National instrumental music awards such as: Erhu solo “Celebrating Gong and Drum” Erhu solo; “The Spring Scenes in the South of the Yangtze River Erhu concerto “Night Mooring on Feng Bridge” and “Attachment to Suzhou”. The national instrumental music performed by Jiangsu Song and Dance Theater under its command has been edited into “Return”, “Moon”, “Chant”, “Dance”, and which have been recorded by many record companies and audio and video publishers at home and abroad into CDS and tapes published at home and abroad.
Changyao Zhu has visited and frequently performed in the United States, Japan, Britain, France, Italy, Austria, Germany Switzerland, Iceland, Singapore and other countries, which have been highly praised by domestic and foreign experts and audiences. He is reputed as: “like a brimming cup of wonderful wine, full without flowing over”, “bow and bow appeal to people string and string show the world”, “world-class string player”, “national treasure on earth”.
