Instrument: erhu, gaohu
Mr. Liu was born in Hunan Province in 1973. He began learning the erhu under his father, who realized his seven year old’s special talent for the instrument. At 9, Mr. Liu entered the first annual National Children’s Traditional Instrument Solo Competition and won a silver medal. In the early 1990’s, he was admitted to the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and studied the erhu under the famous music educator Chang Fu Liu. In 1995, he received a special award at the Foritone Global Chinese Traditional Instrument Professional Erhu Competition. In 1999, he ranked first at the National Tian Hua Cup Erhu Competition. Mr. Liu has also been a member of several reputable orchestras: China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, China National Traditional Orchestra, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Suzhou Chinese Orchestra. In the succeeding years, many of Mr Liu’s students have been admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music and became successful performers and educators themselves.
